今回は、ミスターインクレディブルの一節を使って英語を勉強する方法を紹介していきます。
「ボブが妻に内緒で、スーパーヒーローの仕事で破れた服を、エドナに持っていく場面」をピックアップしました！笑
【ディズニー映画】ミスターインクレディブルで英語を勉強する方法
1．英語を確認する
まずは(自宅からエドナの家へ向かうまでのボブとエレンの会話)から。
ボブ：Jeez.
ヘレン：Hurry,honey.or You will be late for work.
ヘレン：Have a great day,honey.
ボブ：Thanks.
ヘレン：Help customers,climb ladders….
ボブ：Bring bacon.
ヘレン：All that jazz.
2．内容を確認する
ボブ：Jeez. あちゃ～
ヘレン：Hurry,honey.or You will be late for work. 何やってるの？仕事遅れるわよ～。
ヘレン：Have a great day,honey. いい日を！
ボブ：Thanks. ありがとう
ヘレン：Help customers,climb ladders…. 今日もお客様を助けて出世してね。
ボブ：Bring bacon. 生活費を稼いでくるよ。
(Bring bacon.は直訳すると「ベーコン持って帰る」となり、ベーコン(食事)を家に持って帰る→生活費を家にいれるになります。)
ヘレン：All that jazz. 「その他の事もね」という感じです。
3．もう一度同じ場面を観てみる
ここで確認ができたら、同じ場面をもう一度観ます。すると言葉が1度目よりよく聞こえるようになってきます。さらに、気になる場面は何度も聞きましょう。
4．同じことを繰り返す
(ボブがエドナの家に入るところから)
サングラスの男：You have an appointment?
ボブ：I’m an old friend.I just wanted to…..
サングラス男：All visitors are required…..
エドナ：Go check the electric fence or something.What is it?Who are you?What do you want?
My God,you’ve gotten fat.Come in.Come,come.
内容を確認
サングラスの男：You have an appointment? 約束されてますか？
ボブ：I’m an old friend.I just wanted to….. 俺は昔の友達で…
サングラス男：All visitors are required….. 全てのお客さんは、～が必要で…
エドナ：Go check the electric fence or something. あなたは電気柵の周りでも見てきなさいっ!
What is it?Who are you?What do you want？ で、何の用？あなたは誰？何が目的？
My God,you’ve gotten fat.Come in.Come,come. あら、あなためちゃくちゃ太ったわね。入って、入って。
次の場面に行きます。
エドナ:Yes,things are going well.
Quite well.My God, no complaints.
But,you know,it is not the same.
Not the same at all.
ボブ:Weren’t you in the news?
Some show in prayge…Prague?
エドナ:Milan,darling.Milan.
内容を確認します
エドナ:Yes,things are going quite well. そうそう、上手くいったわよ～。
Quite well.My God, no complaints. まぁ良かったわよ。不満もないし。
But,you know,it is not the same.Not the same at all. でも同じではないわ‥全然同じじゃない。
ボブ:Weren’t you in the news? ニュース出てなかった?
Some show in Prayge…Prague? どこだっけ・・プラハ・・?
エドナ:Milan,darling.Milan. ミラノよ、ミーラーノ。
次の場面にいきます。
エドナ：Supermodels.
Nothing super about them.
Spoiled,stupid,little stick figures with poofy lips who think only about themselves.
Feh!I used to design for gods.
But perhaps you come with a challenge,eh?
I was surprised to get your call.
ボブ:E,I just need a patch job.
エドナ:Hmm.This is megamesh.
Outmoded,but very sturdy.
And you’ve torn right through it!
When have you been doing,Robert?
Moonlighting hero work?
ボブ:Must have happened a long time ago.
エドナ:I see.This is a hobo suit,darling.
I can’t be seen in this.
I won’t allow it.
Fifteen years ago,maybe,but now?
ボブ：What do you mean?You designed it.
エドナ：I never look back,darling.It distracts from the now.
内容を確認します。
エドナ：Supermodels. スーパーモデルねぇ。
Nothing super about them. あんなの全然スーパーじゃないわよ！
Spoiled,stupid,little stick figures with poofy lips who think only about themselves. 自分の事しか考えない、甘ったれで、バカで、唇が腫れてる棒人間だわ!
Feh!I used to design for gods. これは直訳すると、私は神のためにデザインしていた、となるんですがこの場合「元々はスーパーヒーローの服のデザインをしていた」の方が自然になります。
But perhaps you come with a challenge,eh? 挑戦しがいがある(話・依頼)を持ってきたわよね?
I was surprised to get your call. 電話をもらった時、驚いたわ。
ボブ:E,I just need a patch job. いや、ただの縫い合わせる仕事持ってきただけだよ。
エドナ:Hmm.This is megamesh. へぇ、この素材はメガメッシュね。
Outmoded,but very sturdy. 時代遅れ、でも丈夫。
And you’ve torn right through it! でも見事に貫通してるわね。
When have you been doing,Robert? いつから仕事をまた始めたの?ロバート。
Moonlighting hero work? アルバイトでヒーローでもやってるの?
ボブ:Must have happened a long time ago. たぶん、昔の傷だと思う。(汗)
エドナ:I see.This is a hobo suit,darling. へぇ、これホームレスみたいな服よ。
I can’t be seen in this. 見てられない!
I won’t allow it. こんなもの着るなんて許せない!
Fifteen years ago,maybe,but now? 15年前ならいいけど、今はだめ。
ボブ：What do you mean?You designed it. え?君がデザインしただろ?!
エドナ：I never look back,darling.It distracts from the now. 私は過去は振り返らないの。
※It distracts from the now.は”今の状態から気をそらす”となり、今に集中できなくなるを意味します。
